On this train journey, you will embark from Kolkata, the cultural capital of the country, and trail the tracks of Darjeeling, Varanasi, Agra, and Shimla, culminating in Delhi. You will travel in First Class sleeper category on all overnight trains and you will also experience the joy of the charming UNESCO Heritage listed Himalayan Mountain toy trains in Darjeeling and Shimla.

Day 1. To Kolkata

Departure from your home country to Kolkata.

Day 2. Kolkata

Arrive in Kolkata, the City of Joy. Owing to its aristocratic past, Kolkata has an incomparable spirit and majestic charm that invokes the feeling of awe and reverence equally. Experience it with afternoon sightseeing, including visits to the Jain Temple, Victoria Memorial, Kali Temple and Mother Teresa’s Orphanage. Overnight at The Oberoi Grand.

Day 3. On board Train to New Jalpaiguri

Make a rejuvenating start to the day with a visit to the colourful flower market. Rest of the day at leisure. Evening board the train to New Jalpaiguri. Overnight on the train in First Class category.

Day 4. To Darjeeling

Arrive in New Jalpaiguri in the morning. Board the delightful Toy Train to Darjeeling and chug your way up the awe-inspiring mountains and pristine greenery, paving the path for glorious scenery. Two nights at the Hotel Windamere.

Day 5. Darjeeling

A dawn visit to the Tiger Hill to view the majestic presence of the Mount Kanchenjunga and the peak of the Mount Everest, provided you get a clear day. Also experience some moments of peace at the Ghoom Monastery, where the 15-feet statue of the Maitreya Buddha is enshrined. After lunch, experience the diversity of flora at the expansive Botanical Garden.

Day 6. On board Train To Varanasi

Morning drive to New Jalpaiguri station to board the Rajdhani Express to Mughal Sarai station. Overnight on the train in First Class category.

Day 7. Varanasi

Arrive at the Mughal Sarai station early in the morning. Morning at leisure. Afternoon excursion to Sarnath where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon. Visit the beautiful Buddhist Stupas and nearby Museum. Evening cycle rickshaw ride to the Ghats to be a part of the grand and timeless religious ceremony (‘aarti’). Two nights at the Gateway Hotel Ganges Varanasi.

Day 8. On board Train to Agra

Dawn boat ride on the Holy River Ganges to watch the morning religious rituals performed by devotees. Rest of the day at leisure. Evening transfer to the Mughal Sarai station to board train to Tundla. Overnight on the train in First Class category.

Day 9. Agra

Arrive at the Tundla station in the morning. Drive to Agra. Enjoy the afternoon in the awe of the majestic Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built under the rule of successive Mughal Emperors. The Fort is a symbol of the erstwhile Mughal power. Also visit the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah during your sightseeing in Agra. Overnight at the Taj Gateway.

Day 10. On board Train to Kalka

Awe-inspiring sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal to experience the first rays of sun transforming the pure white marble of Taj and lending it an ephemeral hue of Pink, a breathtaking view etched in your memory forever. Afternoon transfer to the railway station to board train to Kalka. Overnight on the train in First Class category.

Day 11. To Shimla

Arrive in Kalka early in the morning. Board the endearing Toy Train to Shimla. Relax and enjoy the stunning views as the little train gradually chugs up the winding track. Two nights at the Oberoi Cecil.

Day 12. Shimla

Morning sightseeing of the ‘Queen of the Hills’ includes the Viceroy’s Lodge and highlights of the Mall including the Gaiety Theatre and Christ’s Church. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 13. To Delhi

Morning at leisure. In the afternoon drive down to the Kalka Station to board the Shatabdi express train to Delhi. Two nights at Shangri-La Eros Hotel.

Day 14. Delhi

Experience the hustle and bustle of Delhi. Full day sightseeing of the Old and New parts of Delhi includes the Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk Bazaar, India Gate, Humayan’s Tomb and the Qutab Minar.

Day 15. On the final day

Departure for your home country.

Suggested extensions: Ranthambore National Park, Udaipur, Goa, Amritsar, Maheshwar, and Nepal (various other extensions are available on request).
