This river cruise holiday takes you on an ‘Experiential Journey’ of Assam on the majestic Brahmaputra, one of the greatest rivers of Asia, onboard the award-winning river cruise vessel, M.V. Mahabaahu.

Assam, with its undulating hills, lush forests, abundant wildlife and unique tribal culture, is the gateway to the northeastern part of India. The glorious Brahmaputra River flows through Tibet, Assam and Bangladesh. While it charts its course through Assam, it engenders one of the richest natural habitats for wildlife in the world. On this tour, you will visit the famed Kaziranga National Park, where you can spot the great single horned rhinos, elephants, wild buffaloes and tigers. Other notable beauties to be spotted during the cruise include river dolphins and magnificent birds such as the Great Hornbill.

Day 1. To Kolkata

Departure from your home country

Day 2. Kolkata

Clamour and Colours – say hello to the city of joy – Kolkata. Afternoon Kolkata sightseeing attractions include the Jain Temple, iconic Victoria Memorial, Kali Temple and Mother Teresa’s Orphanage. Overnight at Taj Bengal Hotel.

Day 3. To Gangtok

Morning fly to Bagdogra. Drive to Gangtok. Two nights at Norkhill Hotel.

Day 4. Gangtok

After breakfast, explore the famous Monastery of Rumtek, showcasing its traditional Tibetan monastic architecture. After lunch, visit the Tibetan Institute & Orchid Museum. This Institute is a must-visit to gain insight into Tibetan studies, Buddhist philosophy and religion.

Day 5. To Kalimpong

Morning drive to Kalimpong. Afternoon visit to the Zong Dog Palri Fobrang Monastery in Durpin Dara, and be awed by its panoramic views. Later on, explore the local bazaar – and get a first-hand experience of the native culture by meeting villagers, impeccably dressed in local costumes to sell their farm products. Overnight stay at the Hotel Himalayan

Day 6. To Darjeeling

After breakfast drive to Darjeeling to meet a local family for lunch. Indulge in the traditional Sikkimese way of living and hospitality. Two nights at Hotel Windamere.

Day 7. Darjeeling

In the morning, visit Tiger Hill and behold the sunrise over Kanchenjunga and the towering peaks of the Eastern Himalaya. The surprises continue, while you explore the ethereal charm of the Ghoom Monastery, adorned with the images of the Maiterya Buddha. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Later on, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute & the Mountaineering Museum.

Day 8. To Guwahati

Morning drive to Bagdogra airport to fly to Guwahati. Late afternoon visit to the Navagraha Temple – the Abode of Surya or the Temple of the Nine Celestial Bodies. As the name indicates, the majestic Temple is dedicated to the nine planets in the solar system and it is also a centre of astrological and astronomical research. Overnight at Kiranshree Portico Hotel.

Day 9. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

After breakfast, visit the Temple of Kamakhya before boarding the M.V. Mahabaahu Cruise to explore the mighty Brahmaputra River in Assam. A bountiful source, the river is adorned with fabulous natural beauty, dense forests, rolling plains, and a rich blend of flora and fauna. It is also famed for its quality tea and one-horned Indian rhinoceros. Overnight on board.

Day 10. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

Catch glimpses of the captivating life of the river from the observation deck as the upstream cruise begins. You may catch the elusive Gangetic dolphins in action, as they search for food. At sunset, the anchor is dropped midstream. Overnight on board.

Day 11. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

Morning cruise begins towards Silghat. After lunch, drive to Kaliabor Manor – a beautiful Tea Estate.

Day 12. To M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

The day begins with a visit to the Kaziranga National Park – also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy an elephant safari to spot the magnificent rhinoceros and tiger. Kaziranga is famed for its rare One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros: once considered to be an endangered species. Thanks to conservation efforts, this shy animal now elegantly treads over this vast and beautiful forest. Enjoy breakfast in a resort in Kaziranga, then jump onto a wild jeep safari! Return to the ship for lunch and continue sailing to Bishwanath.

Day 13. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

Cruise to Majuli. Enjoy the thrills of a bonfire on an isolated island. Overnight on board.

Day 14. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

Disembark for a visit to the Mishing Village to closely observe the daily chores of the villagers. Return to the ship for lunch. Spend a lazy afternoon on board and adore the lovely scenery. Overnight on board.

Day 15. M.V. Mahabaahu Brahmaputra Cruise

Morning Yoga session on board. After breakfast depart for Majuli Island and visit the Monastries. Majuli is also known as a treasure house of the vibrant Assamese culture, as here the ancient Monasteries have preserved rare arts dated back to the 15th Century.

Day 16. To Kolkata

After breakfast, disembark and drive to Sivasagar, the ancient capital city of the Ahom Kings. Bearing the testimony of time, the inimitable architectural style of Ahom Kings is well-preserved in these monuments, scattered around the town. Drive to Guwahati to fly to Kolkata. Overnight at Taj Bengal.

Day 17. On the final day

Departure for your home country.
